On Strategies of Translating Pragmatic Text

Abstract

German School’s functionalist approaches, as a break with the concept of “equivalence” theories, try to liberate the translator from the restrain of source language. It regards translating as a purposeful activity which should take the requirements of both the readers and clients into account. According to Qing Xiubai’s classification, pragmatic text is all kinds of texts except literature text, including bibliography, technique report, advertisement, tourist materials etc. This thesis makes a systematic study of the framework theories of functionalist approaches which includes“Skopostheorie”,“Theory of Translation Action. Based on Pragmatic Texts Theory, the author attempts to apply functionalist theory to the translation of pragmatic texts and discusses the appropriate strategies such as instrumental and documentary translation. As the study, the thesis finds that functionalist approaches and the theory of the text typology can serve as a theoretical guideline for the translation of pragmatic texts of different functions.

摘 要

翻譯不僅是1項語言活動，還是1項跨文化的交際活動。德國功能翻譯理論作為對“等值”觀的重大突破,試圖把翻譯從原語的束縛中解放出來，從譯者的角度闡釋翻譯活動，認為翻譯是1種需要考慮讀者和客戶要求的目的性行為。根據(jù)秦秀白的分類，廣義的實用文本是指除文學(xué)以外的1切文本，包括自傳、技術(shù)報告、通知、旅游文本、合同書、廣告、契約、新聞等等。本文較系統(tǒng)地研究了功能翻譯理論中“目的” “翻譯行為理論”，以實用文本分類說為切入點，通過分析實用型文本的特點及漢英實用文本翻譯實例，探討針對不同翻譯目的和文本類型的翻譯策略及方法：如紀(jì)實翻譯，工具翻譯等。研究結(jié)果表明，功能翻譯理論為時政、經(jīng)貿(mào)、旅游 、廣告等功能不同的漢英實用型文本翻譯提供了較有價值的理論依據(jù)，具有現(xiàn)實指導(dǎo)意義。
